Overview

The Notting Hill College Diploma in TESOL is designed for teachers who wish to achieve a higher and advanced qualification level in the theory and methodology of teaching English to speakers of other languages. This course is designed to equip students with a deeper understanding of the theory that underpins the teaching of English as a second language, strengthening a teachers skills and understanding of how English works, boosting their employability and career advancement prospects.

The Notting Hill College Diploma in TESOL is designed for teachers who have completed their TEFL course and wish to upgrade their skills, knowledge and qualification concerning the theory and methodology of teaching English to speakers of other languages.
  • A degree from an approved institution of higher education.
  • At least 2 years teaching experience and want to achieve a higher and advanced qualification level in the theory and methodology of teaching English to speakers of other languages.
The programme has 4 modules forming the basic theoretical framework for TESOL practice.

Module 1: (5 credit points) Teaching Methods & Teaching Principles
  • Language acquisition
  • The nature of language
  • Theories & methodologies of TEFL
  • Principles of modern language teaching

Module 2: (5 credit points) Theory of TESOL: language skills

  • Receptive skills
  • Productive skills
  • Bloom’s taxonomy
  • Approaches to teaching language skills

Module 3: (5 credit points) Planning & Organisation in TESOL

  • Developing lesson plans
  • Roles of language teachers
  • Classroom management techniques
  • Using materials & aids in the classroom

Module 4: (5 credit points) Applications of Linguistics to TESOL

  • Syntax and semantics
  • Introduction to linguistics
  • Phonetics & morphology
  • Errors % mistakes in language learning
  • 300 hours of study ​
  • This course is available through Distance learning, Hybrid Learning or Virtual Campus

Distance Learning
For the self-guided, busy individual who wants full control over their learning. With this mode you will be given 24/7 access to the Learning Management System where you will find all course information and resources, Then you can study and submit assignments at your own pace. You will still have access to a tutor should you have any questions.

Hybrid Learning
With this mode of learning, you will receive all the benefits of Distance Learning plus up to twelve hours of one-to-one support with an expert tutor who will guide you through the course. The schedule is flexible and will be determined between yourself and our admission team in the UK upon enrolment.

Virtual Campus
On the Virtual Campus, you’ll meet weekly with like-minded students from all over the world to engage in close-nit discussions of key subjects and discuss real workplace experiences. This is a great opportunity to network with other professionals from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. You’ll still get all the benefits of a Distance Learning student. Assessment is through the completion of 8 assignments, 2 per module studied.
Each module contains two assignments, which must be completed and uploaded on NHC Learning Portal.
